Microdermabrasion is the treatment of imperfect skin by the
removal of the topmost layer of skin, thus making it more
supple and vibrant.  New Appeal ™ Microdermabrasion
removes this layer of skin by polishing it with fine natural
diamond chips and vacuuming the dead skin in a controlled
manner. Removing dead skin leaves a smoother surface that
promotes new growth. Microdermabrasion is similar to a
chemical peel treatment in its results but without the effects of
burning, irritation and skin reaction.
The New Appeal™ Microdermabrader can treat skin
imperfections such as age spots, sun-damaged skin, acne,
pigmentation marks, and fine wrinkles.
Microdermabrasion treatment is administered by a esthetician.
The length of the treatment and number of treatments is
dependent on skin type and condition. The skin is polished
and not broken which can lead to bleeding. This non-invasive
treatment can be completed in a short period of time and
without pain. This treatment is ideal for people on the go.
There is no "downtime" from work or social activities. The
results are gradual but highly effective for clearer, healthier
looking skin.
At Pure Reflection, we combine this treatment with an Oxygen
Facial to achieve maximum results.
Dermabrasion is a technique traced back to the Egyptians.
Kings and queens used alabaster and pumice to remove
blemishes and rough spots to make the skin smooth and soft.
The New Appeal™ Microdermabrader and DiamondTone™
wands are a twenty-first century technology to apply this
millennia old technique.
In the mid-90’s a technique using aluminum oxide powder for
dermabrasion was developed in Italy. The process uses
vacuum and a small orifice to accelerate the powder.
Aluminum oxide abrades the skin and the vacuum cleans out
blocked pores. The downside is that aluminum oxide is left
imbedded in the skin, and floating around in the air; and there
is a significant volume of material to dispose of after the
procedure. The crystals are also left in the hair and clothes of
both the patient and clinician.
To solve these problems, Altair has developed a new
instrument for microdermabrasion. The heart of the system is
the DiamondTome™ wands.
Constructed of stainless steel and coated with natural
diamond chips, the wands are a break through in a medical
grade device.
The degree of abrasion is determined by the grit size and the
vacuum pressure you select. If the fine wand (75 micron) and
a moderate vacuum pressure is not adequate, you can use the
medium grit or even the coarse wand (125 micron). The
vacuum pressure controls the pressure of the skin against the
diamond chips.
To achieve uniform results when using abrasive powders
(aluminum oxide and salts) the clinician must use a smooth
and uniform motion with the hand piece. Pausing in one place
or different speed across the skin surface will effect the depth
of abrasion. Speed and pauses do not control the depth of
abrasion with the DiamondTome. The amount of abrasion is
determined by the diamond chip size and vacuum setting.
When the procedure is completed, clean-up is simple. Clean
the wand in a detergent with a brush or ultrasonic cleaner.
Dispose of the collection filter with your bio-hazards. The
tubing can be washed.
There are no crystals to change, filters to be back-flushed or
canisters to be refilled.
In preparation for the next procedure, the wands are steam
sterilized. The wands are reusable. The natural diamond chips
are almost indestructible.
The indications for use are based on a reasonable treatment
pattern. Six to eight visits spaced two weeks apart are
common with a maintenance treatment every three months.
